ACT NOW: Treat and Reduce Obesity Act

Have a say. HR4818 Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) is a great opportunity to impress on the nation, legislators and health professionals that obesity is a chronic disorder. It’s about time that Medicare beneficiaries are offered COMPREHENSIVE obesity management. Multidisciplinary team, lifestyle interventions, medication options and support along the way need to be covered. This bill has been introduced several times without getting over the finish line. Action Alerts are one way to make noise with our public officials. Add your support to the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act. This would provide reimbursement coverage to RDNs. Now Intensive Behavioral Therapy (IBT) can be provided in a physician office and billed by the physician, not the RDN. Increased access for Medicare beneficiaries is essential to support the millions who need help.

Tell Congress that comprehensive coverage for obesity treatment must include lifestyle interventions such as intensive behavioral counseling in addition to anti-obesity medications.

The bipartisan, bicameral Treat and Reduce Obesity Act HR4818 would expand the providers and programs that could deliver IBT within Medicare Part B and would provide coverage for anti-obesity medications in Medicare Part D.
